Tokyo’s maze of public transport is difficult to navigate. My advice is to look at the poison green line of Yamanote. It covers major tourist attractions and you do not need a wifi to check where you are going. If you use an App, I recommend the “Japan Travel App” but Google is fine as well.

The Yamanote line circle is going clockwise and anti-clockwise through Tokyo. It is easy to remember this line and to get around. I review every station on this line. Today’s Station review is Hamamatsucho. A rather old station with lots of small corridors going in various directions. But remember, once you arrive at any station in Tokyo, look out for a map and know where you are. From there it is easy to navigate.

I have been many times to Hamamatsucho Station because of the Zojoji Temple. It is one of the most photogenic temples in Tokyo and had a very nice tradition of sending sky lantern into the sky until maybe 2010 or 1 or 2 years later. Now they have this beautiful tradition on Tanabata to create the milky way on (this is July 7). This shrine is 10 minutes walk from Hamatsucho Station. The Zojoji Temple has many events and I recommend to visit the website, you can easily translate the website with google. Tokyo Tower is just beside Zojoji Temple and I am not getting into it, there are tons of videos on youtube featuring the visit to Tokyo Tower.

You could go further and reach Roppongi Hills but I believe it is to far and to much for a day.

Akihabara, oder auch als das Elektrik Stadtteil in Tokio bekannt, ist heute das Thema. In einem Video auf meinem Youtube Kanal stelle ich diesen Bezirk vor. Dies ist ein weiteres Video in der Reihe "along the Yamanote line", einer Eisenbahnstrecke die durch Tokio führt und sehr praktisch ist für alle Reisende die das erste Mal nach Tokio kommen.

Vor 11 Uhr morgens ist kein Geschäft offen, nur Cafe's oder bekannte amerikanische Fastfood Ketten sind geöffnet. Elektrische Ersatzteile können heutzutage einfach und schnell über das Internet gefunden werden. Dies war vor der Internet Zeit nicht möglich und aus dieser Zeit trägt Akihabara seinen Spitznamen. Heute haben sich große Elektronik Giganten wie Yodobashi und Big Camera in Akihabara angesiedelt. 

Radio Center & Denpa Kaikan

Das berühmte Radio Center und Denpa Kaikan besteht immer noch unter der Sobu Line und hier findet der interessierte Besucher ungewöhnliche Radio- und Funk-Geräte. 

Otaku, das japanische Wort für Menschen die von ihren Hobbies konsumiert werden. Diese Hobbies können Manga, Anime, Computerspiele oder auch andere Dinge sein. Die Otaku's die Akihabara besuchen sind meistens an Manga und Anime interessiert. 

Radio Kaikan

Radio Kaikan ist ein Hochhaus gleich gegenüber von Radio Center und Denpa Kaikan. Über mehrere Stockwerke verteilt finden sich die dollsten Manga und Anime Figuren, Sammelkarten, Poster, Anhänger und Mitbringsel. Für mich war dieses Gebäude entsetzlich langweilig. Das einzige was ich vielleicht ein wenig interessant fand waren die Manga Puppen. 

Sehr teuer und für Sammler gedacht. 

Don Quijote

Als nächste nehme ich Don Quijote unter die Lupe. Wer Don Quijote nicht kennt, dies ist eine Laden-Kette die es überall in Tokio gibt und es ist nicht notwendig diesen in Akihabara zu besuchen. Doch in Akihabara ist AKB48 Zuhause und. dort werden regelmäßig Shows aufgeführt. Ausserdem gibt es ein Internet Cafe, welches als "Home Cafe" heisst. Beides habe ich nicht gesehen, zu einem gab es an diesem Tag keine AKB48 Show und das Home Cafe hatte eine lange Warte-Schlange an der ich mich nicht anstellen wollte. Das gesamte Gebäude roch nach Schimmel und die Beleuchtung war mehr auf der schummrigen Seite. 

Es gab viele tolle Kostüme, dass war nicht schlecht aber in Shibuya gibt es "Mega Don Quijote" und es ist absolute nicht notwendig deswegen nach Akihabara zu fahren. 

Maid Cafe's

Diese Cafe's sind sehr beliebt und werden gerne besucht. Zum einen weil die Bedienung ein Maid Kostüm trägt und zum anderen weil eine Show präsentiert wird. Ich war mit Freunden in einem Maid Cafe in Shibuya, unschuldig und nett. Theoretisch würde ich dazu raten ein Maid Cafe zu besuchen, wenn man sich dafür interessiert. 

An dem Tag meines Besuches in Akihabara habe ich 5 Maids auf der Straße gesehen die für diese Cafe's geworben haben und meine persönliche Einschätzung war, dass diese alle nicht seriös aussahen.

Ich habe Akihabara mehrfach besucht und es ist nichts für mich. Ich finde es ist eine Touristenfalle und sollte gemieden werden.

Otsuka Tokyo along the Yamanote line Japan Travel Tipps

If you are in Tokyo next week, you are in for a treat. 

In this video I show you what to see at Otsuka Station and what kind of upcoming events are happening in the next months.

Otsuka district in Tokyo and Otsuka Station are two different things. Otsuka Station is sandwiched between Kitaōtsuka and Minamiōtsuka district.

These are the top attraction in Otsuka and before I continue, this is the website, you can translate everything to english with an google extension and read it for yourself.

Generally speaking Otsuka has for me one major Tourist attraction beside the festivals, it is the Gokoku-ji Temple.
