Arrabbiata Sauce

Heute zeige ich Euch in einem youtube Video wie ich Arrabbiata zubereite. Es ist ein Lieblingsgericht von meinen Söhnen, gerade mein Ältester liebt Arrabbiata. Wir haben es in Dubai entdeckt, eigentlich kommt es aus der Latium Region in Italien. Es erinnert uns aber an Dubai.

Today I will show you in a youtube Video how I cook Arrabbiata. It is one of my sons favourite dishes. Especially my eldest son loves it. We discovered Arrabbiata during our time in Dubai but it is originally from the Latium region in Italy. It reminds us of Dubai.

Mein Sohn wird im nächsten Jahr nach Deutschland gehen und dort studieren. Natürlich wollte ich ihm ein Familien-Kochbuch mitgeben. Doch die Idee, dass er kocht und mich gleichzeitig auf dem Video sehen kann fand ich super. Gleichzeitig kann ich dies mit Euch teilen.

My son will leave to study in Germany in the next year. I wanted to create a family cooking book for him to take it to Germany but I like the idea that he can cook and see me at the same time on youtube. At the same time I can share this with my readers.

Es ist nicht perfekt aber für das erste Mal bin ich zufrieden. Jetzt können meine Söhne mit mir kochen, selbst wenn ich nicht vor Ort bin.

It is not perfect but I am happy with the result since it is the first time. Now, my sons can cook with me and it does't matter if I am not there. 

Wahrscheinlich fällt Euch auf, dass dort Martina statt Martine steht. Nun, dass liegt daran, dass ich unter einem Pseudonym schreibe aber für meine Söhne möchte ich dies lieber mit meinem richtigen Namen posten. Ab sofort findet ihr unter Martina's Daidokoro mehr über unsere Küche Zuhause und natürliche auch japanische, singapurische und deutsche bzw. mehr norddeutsche / preussische Gerichte. Ich habe kochen von meiner Oma gelernt und sie kam aus Ost-Preussen. Die Zutaten habe ich nochmals nach dem Video aufgelistet. Ich spreche deutsch im Video und ich habe englische Untertitel.

You might realise that the video says Martina's daidokoro and not Martine. This is because I write under a pseudonym but for the cooking videos I would like to use my real name. From now on you will find our recipes under Martina's daidokoro. I am from north Germany, lived in Singapore, Dubai and Japan. Of course I will cover some highlight dishes we discovered during our time abroad. My roots in cooking is based on  East Prussia, a region my grandmother comes from & north Germany. I learned a lot from her. The ingredients I list here but it is included in the video. The language of the video is German but with English subtitles. 

Entschuldigungsschreiben für meinen Teenager! - An apology!

Ich glaube ich habe heute die lustigste Entschuldigung meines Lebens für meinen Teenager geschrieben. Ehrlich währt am längsten. Meine Söhne sind jetzt 15 und 17 Jahre alt und der Kleine (!) ist fasziniert von Body Building und natürlich werden viele Witze über Teens gemacht, die breite Schultern haben und Stäbchen als Beine. Davon hat er auch gehört. Nun, er dachte sich, dass er das durch gutes Training ändern kann. Das Ergebnis: Richtig schlimmer Muskelkater, Schule fällt aus. Normalerweise bin ich sehr streng, die Kinder sind immer in der Schule aber in diesem Fall bin ich machtlos. Er kann seine Knie nicht beugen, läuft also wie eine steife Barbie Puppe die sich an den Wänden abstützt. Würde ich darauf bestehen, dass er in die Schule geht, würden sich alle über ihn Lustig machen. Also habe ich die folgende Nachricht verfasst:

I think I wrote the funniest excuse of my life for my teenager today. Keep it honest. My sons are 15 and 17 years old and the little one (!) is fascinated by body building and of course there are a lot of jokes around about teenager going to the gym. Wide shoulders and chopstick legs. So he had heard this as well. Well, he thought, he can change this in doing lots of exercise with his legs. The result: Really bad sore muscle pain, no school. Usually I am very strict, the kids have to go to school but in this case I am powerless. If I insist that he goes to school, he would be at the end of all jokes in school. He cannot bend his knees and walks like a stiff barbie doll, holding on to the walls. So I phrased my email to his teacher as follow:

                 Mein Sohn, ............, kann heute nicht zur Schule kommen, da er sein Body Building

                 Training im Fitness Studio übertrieben hat. Kurz gesagt, er kann nicht normal gehen wegen

                 seines Muskelkaters. Dies ist eine sehr peinliche Entschuldigung und gestern habe ich ihm

                gesagt, dass er in die Schule gehen muss. Jedoch muss ich einsehen, dass er mit Sicherheit

                nicht fähig ist in die Schule zu kommen.

                       exercise in the gym and due to his muscle soreness he simply cannot walk in a normal 

                      way. This seems to be a very awkward excuse and I told him yesterday that he has to go 

                      to school. However I realise he is definitely not able too.

Devils Punchbowl Waterfall, Neuseeland - kein Eintrittsgeld

Devils Punchbowl Waterfall @ Arthur's Pass

Arthur's Pass (martinemler) liegt ungefähr 2 Stunden westlich von Christchurch laut google map. Die Landstraße führt durch die Canterbury Ebene langsam hinauf in die Berge. Wir brauchten etwas länger, knapp 2.5 Stunden.

Arthur's Pass is about 2 hour drive from Christchurch according to google map. However we needed 2. 5 hrs to get there. It is a one lane highway through the Canterbury plains slowly moving up into the Western Alps.

Am Arthur Pass Informations Zentrum könnt ihr für weitere interessante Auskünfte anhalten. Der Start der Route zum Wasserfall ist ungefähr 50 m vom Zentrum. Es ist ein sehr einfacher Spaziergang  und am Anfang überquert man mit einem Sprung einen kleinen Bach im Sommer. Ich weiss nicht wie dies im Winter oder Frühjahr aussieht aber es dürfte nicht so schlimm sein. Danach geht es über eine kleine Brücke über den Bealey Fluss, dort ist eine Tafel aufgestellt, die einen Einblick in den lokalen Bergbau gibt. Der Weg führt rechts wieder über eine Brücke den Hügel hoch. Es gibt viele Treppen. Eigentlich braucht man weniger als 1 Stunde für den Hin- und Rückweg.

More information are available at Arthur's Pass visitor center. The car park is located 50m from the visitor center. The walking track to the waterfall takes around 20 minutes and you are back in less than an hour. It is a simple walk with a tiny creek at the beginning, you cross that with a jump. I am not so sure about other season but in summer the creek almost vanishes. After that there is a bridge over the Bealey River. On the other side is a small historical information about local mining. Going to your right where another bridge crosses the Bealey river again, it goes up into the hill with many man made stairs. You need less than an hour for this trip.

Dies ist ein sehr gemütlicher Halbtagesausflug von Christchurch und unsere Teenager waren begeistert, obwohl die lange Fahrt etwas abschreckte. Auch im Sommer benötigt man eine Grundausrüstung, wie Merino & Regenjacke. Das Wetter ist nicht vorhersehbar. 

This is a very comfortable half day trip from Christchurch and our teenager loved it, although the drive from Christchurch was a little bit to much. In summer it is usually warm but even then you need a basic equipment like rain jacket and merino. The weather is unpredictable.

Wenn man weiter in Richtung Westküste fährt kommt nach ca. 15 Minuten ein Aussichtspunkt für den man rechts abbiegen muss. Dort findet ihr diese schöne Aussicht:

If you drive a little further down Highway 73 you will find this outlook approx. 15 minutes after the Waterfall. It is on the right side of the road. A real surprise.

Diese Vögel oder Papageien sind Schädlinge in Neuseeland und wurden bis Anfang der 70ziger Jahre rücksichtslos gejagt. Sie sind sehr verspielt und neugierig. Fressen gerne die Gummis von Autofenstern oder die Verkleidungsleisten von Autotüren. Ausserdem sollen sie sich manchmal an Schafen vergreifen und deren Nieren fressen. Ziemlich grausam.

These birds or parrots are considered pests in New Zealand and until the early 70's they were hunted for bounty due to concerns by the sheep farming community that it attack livestock. They are very playful and curious. Love to eat the rubber of the car window or rip the trim holding from car doors.
